Read the full press release from the NH Attorney General. Housing Counseling Assistance A portion of the National Mortgage Settlement Funds has been awarded to New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority to support community-based organizations that are working with at-risk borrowers on alternatives to foreclosure, finding new housing arrangements or rebuilding credit. The $3.5 million award from the State Department of Justice and the Banking Department was approved by the Governor and Executive Council, as well as recently by the State Legislative Fiscal Committee. The funds will provide a more robust statewide network of counseling agencies and will be made available to those agencies that respond to a Request for Proposals to be published soon. Based on the responses, New Hampshire Housing will select the agencies and post notices on this website. If there are borrowers with immediate needs, they should contact one of the counseling agencies that are currently operating in the state. These funds cannot be used to pay-down or modify individual borrower's debt.
