A significant but largely ignored episode in the civil rights movement of the 1960s is covered in Arsnick: The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in Arkansas (University of Arkansas Press). The book is edited by Jennifer Jensen Wallach, UNT assistant professor of history, and John A. Kirk, chair and Donaghey Professor of History at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

In October 1962, the national SNCC arrived in Little Rock to organize a series of demonstrations that led to the desegregation of most of the public and private facilities in the city. Volunteers also set up projects across the Arkansas Delta to help empower people to take a stand against racial discrimination. Wallach and Kirk provide articles on the SNCC's activities in Arkansas, firsthand testimonies and key historical documents.
