Three UNT students win national jazz awards
Three College of Music students at the University of North Texas have been named 2013 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award recipients for compositions they recorded last year.
Art-tech research cluster iARTA launches Moebius Journal
The UNT-based research cluster Initiative for Advanced Research in Technology and the Arts (iARTA) has launched an online journal in partnership with the UNT Libraries. Moebius explores international art trends and issues at the intersection of theory and practice and is one of the critical scholarship activities that supports iARTA’s focus on hybrid research, technologies, and new media applications.
Winspear Gift Establishes UNT Opera Chair
A $1.5 million gift from the estate of the late philanthropist and arts patron Bill Winspear has established the endowed Margot and Bill Winspear Chair in Opera Studies at the University of North Texas College of Music. Paula Homer, director of opera who joined the UNT faculty in 1992, has been selected as the first person to hold the chair, effective immediately.
Professor of Music Composition Receives Top Ranking Award
Jon Christopher Nelson, professor of composition studies and the associate dean of operations for the College of Music at UNT, was awarded the International Computer Music Association's 2012 America's Region Award at the International Computer Music Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
