Robert (D.M.A.) and Lauren Murray (’02 D.M.A.), Columbus, Ga. :: were hosts of the 37th annual conference of the International Trumpet Guild in Columbus last spring. Robert is an associate professor of trumpet in the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, and Lauren is oboist and director of education and operations for the Columbus Symphony. In addition to producing the conference — which drew more than 1,200 attendees and featured more than 300 performers from around the world and 29 student trumpet ensembles — the Murrays premiered three new works written for them. At the conference, the ITG Award of Merit was presented to Keith Johnson, UNT professor of trumpet, who also presented a masterclass. UNT trumpet faculty John Holt and Adam Gordon also presented at the conference, and a number of alumni were performers and presenters.
