Passive Data Collection

This web site (http://recording.music.unt.edu) uses a javascript function for browser detection to determine the browser type and browser version of site visitors. This information is used only in its aggregate form, to help us further refine our web site design. The remote host name is collected from each site visitor, and is used only to provide statistical data, specifically, the percentage of "hits" from the UNT domain vs. the percentage of "hits" from outside the UNT domain for this Web site. The pages accessed by each visitor are recorded and preserved in an aggregate form to provide us with information about the relative usage of the pages in our Web site. The web page that referred the site visitor to this UNT Web site is also recorded, and used to improve overall site navigation. Also used are browser cookies that aid in tracking a visitors from page to page in an effort to improve site performance and navigation. This passive information is collected by an external source, and DOES NOT consist of any identifiable such as:

• Names
• Phone Numbers
• Email Addresses
• Mailing Addresses
• Social Security Numbers
• Bank Account Numbers
• Credit Card Information

Email messages sent to the email contact for this Web site will be answered by that account holder or forwarded to another individual at UNT to be answered. Email messages sent to the email contact for this Web site and copies of replies sent by this email contact may be kept and reviewed to help ensure the relevance of information presented in this Web site and the usefulness of the replies from the email contact.

Active Data Collection

Sections of this site ask for login information in order to verify eligibility for a specific service. If that login is an official UNT ID, known as an EUID, only the users registered name, affiliation (staff, faculty, or student) and UNT email address are actively used in processing the login verification, account creation and logging. This information is kept secure locally and is not shared with 3rd party providers. Information is not combined with other statical passive tracking mentioned above. All identifiable data is encrypted in transit via Secure Socket Layers (SSL, https).

Login and passwords are handled in two ways:

1. Asked directly on this site. Your login is accepted and transmitted over a secure connection (https/SSL) to the central UNT directory where the EUID and password are verified. The server returns an authenticated or not authenticated, and only if successful our server will log your EUID and email along with a timestamp. Your password is not kept on our server.

2. This site forwards users to a secure site hosted by CITC. There you would login and if successful their server will pass an encrypted reply back to this site.
