MISSION: The University of North Texas Health Science Center Police Department is committed to incomparable service to the institution and neighboring community, centered upon the uncompromising principles of honesty, integrity and professionalism, with impeccable ethics and compassion for all.

The Police Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is located on the main campus at 3600 Mattison Avenue. The Department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors.

The UNTHSC Police Department is staffed by 22 full-time employees and operates 24 hours a day. UNTHSC Police Officers are licensed with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education as peace officers vested with all the powers, privileges and immunities of peace officers in the state of Texas. Each is a police academy graduate who receives at least 40 hours or more of additional training every two years as required by law.

The Texas Education Code defines our jurisdiction as "all counties in which property is owned, leased, rented or otherwise under the control of the institution of higher education." These counties include Tarrant, Denton, Dallas, and Cooke. UNTHSC Police Officers have authority to "enforce all laws, including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws." The UNTHSC Police Department also maintains an interagency relationship with the Fort Worth Police Department.

The UNTHSC Police Department provides comprehensive law enforcement services. Officers routinely patrol the campus by car, bicycle and foot. State criminal laws are enforced, as are administrative and state traffic regulations governing driving and parking restrictions. Officers take police reports when an offense or an incident is reported, and criminal cases are filed in court when necessary.

The UNTHSC Police Department also employs a number of non-licensed personnel to serve as Communications Officers and Public Service Officers (PSO's). Communication Officers are certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education as Telecommunications Operators. They are responsible for answering telephone and walk-up complaints, dispatching calls, monitoring surveillance cameras and alarm systems besides operating various in-house and law enforcement computer systems. PSOs are responsible for providing patients, visitors, and vendors coming to the UNT Health Science Center with basic information such as instructions on where to park and directions on how to find campus facilities and personnel. PSO’s also issue parking citations, take non-law enforcement reports, assist in covering the communications office, and driving courtesy shuttle vehicles for transporting patients to and from their vehicles to clinic entrances.
