Printmaking majors have the opportunity to learn about the history of printmaking and to take classes in studio printing.
A portfolio is not required for admission to these programs, although if you are a transfer student you may need to submit one for placement. At the end of your sophomore year, the studio faculty members in your area will review your portfolio to determine if you can continue in the program. You also must submit your work in a senior exit review.
Upon completion of 12 semester hours at UNT, including at least six hours in your major, you may work in a part-time job related to your field through UNT's Center for Cooperative Education. You may earn money for your college expenses while gaining valuable work experience. Through cooperative placement, more than 300 Dallas-Fort Worth companies employ UNT students. Many students go on to full-time positions with co-op employers after graduation.
The Department of Studio offers a Master of Fine Arts degree at the graduate level. The Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Arts offers nine areas of specialization: ceramics, drawing and painting, fibers, metalsmithing and jewelry, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Each option requires a creative project and a solo exhibition instead of a thesis. The MFA is a 60 credit-hour terminal degree requiring a minimum of 24 credit hours in the studio course of your specialization.
