The Denton City Council adopted new rules this week that restrict the city’s short-term lenders in ways similar to ordinances passed recently in Austin, El Paso, Dallas and San Antonio.

Food truck owners are happy about the new ordinance that allows them to obtain an annual permit but say it could use some work. Many food trucks gathered last weekend for 35 Denton. But despite the new ordinance, many of the locally owned food trucks, such as Shiitake Swerve and Happy Camper’s Shaved Ice, Lemonades and Floats, were using temporary permits for the music festival because they don’t meet all the requirements for an annual permit yet.

Report identifies gaps in breast cancer research

A new interagency report recommends investing in breast cancer research that focuses on environmental factors and prevention as much as diagnosis and cures. The report, “Breast Cancer and the Environment: Prioritizing Prevention,” was released Tuesday by federal health officials and follows a legislative mandate from the Breast Cancer and Environmental Research Act of 2008.
