Mission Statement

" To provide safe, dependable and cost effective transportation to our customers and mobility for all residents."

On April 20, 2000 the responsibilities of this Division were transferred to the Department of Public Works by the Board of County Commissioners.  Prior to that time, all transportation related services were performed by the Office of Central Services.

In 2003, the St. Mary's Transit System received the State of Maryland's Best Fixed Route System Award for 2002 from the Transportation Association of Maryland.

Activities in this Division include management of the County's vehicle fleet, operation of the STS Transit System, purchase/maintenance/replacement of all vehicles and heavy constructions equipment, non-public school bus transportation and school bus driver training, grant administration, central mailroom and messenger services, and administration of the Bus Driver Drug & Alcohol Testing Program.
