City Will Again Turn the Lights Out for "Earth Hour"
This Saturday, March 23rd, non-essential lights in the City County Building will be turned off from 7-8 p.m. as the City of Knoxville participates in the annual World Wildlife Fund Earth Hour. The WWF each year encourages residents, businesses and governments around the world to turn off lights in symbolic support of energy conservation.

Mayor Rogero Says Work Will Continue on Urban Food Corridor
Although Knoxville was not selected as one of the five winning cities in Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge, Mayor Madeline Rogero has promised to continue working on the "Urban Food Corridor" program outlined in Knoxville's submission for the award. Earlier this week, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that the $5 million grand prize in the Mayors Challenge would go to Providence, R.I., with $1 million awards going to four other cities: Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, and Santa Monica, Calif.

Community Development Develops Annual Action Plan, Public Meeting Set for April 9
The City of Knoxville is in the process of developing the 2013-2014 Annual Action Plan for the proposed use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership Act, and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds during the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2013.

New Funding, Signage to Help South Knoxville Businesses
Vice Mayor Pavlis and Mayor Rogero Mayor Madeline Rogero and Vice Mayor Nick Pavlis today announced a $20,000 grant to help marketing and promotion efforts for South Knoxville businesses that have been affected by the extended closure of the Henley Bridge. The City is also putting up eight temporary signs along major highways north of the river, directing traffic to the Chapman Highway Business District.

City Sponsors 2013 Neighborhood Conference on March 23
The City of Knoxville's Office of Neighborhoods is sponsoring its first-ever Neighborhood Conference for Knoxville and Knox County residents on March 23, 2013, at the Knoxville Convention Center. With the theme of "Connecting Neighborhoods, Building Community," the day-long conference will offer more than 30 workshops on issues including codes enforcement, crime prevention and neighborhood organizing. Registration, admission and parking for the conference are free.

Mayor Rogero Honors City Employees
Mayor Rogero At a special luncheon today held in the Knoxville Civic-Coliseum, Mayor Madeline Rogero honored City Employees who have 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service or have retired from the City in the past year. Not all long-term or retired employees were present for the luncheon but they will receive recognition certificates.
