Antitrust Bureau

The Antitrust Bureau, part of the Division of Economic Justice, is responsible for enforcing the antitrust laws to prevent restraint of trade and to promote competition in New York State. The Bureau has responsibilities under both the federal antitrust laws (the Sherman and Clayton Acts) and New York State’s antitrust law (the Donnelly Act), which are three-fold:

To use the Attorney General’s extensive investigative powers to probe into any arrangement or activity that appears to be an antitrust violation;
To prevent or enjoin anticompetitive practices that are harmful to the public; and
To bring civil or criminal prosecutions against violations of the antitrust laws.

In carrying out its mission, the Bureau brings actions on behalf of the State and its citizens in federal and state court.
