Personal Financial Planning - Undergraduate

Personal Financial Planning - Undergraduate

This undergraduate-level certificate program is beneficial for finance professionals seeking to stay relevant in their field, to expand their skills, or to enhance their previous degree. The certificate is available on ground. To be eligible for the certificate, students must meet undergraduate admissions requirements, or have a bachelor's or master's degree.

Upon completion of the courses listed, the student will be eligible to sit for the CFP® certification exam. For requirement information: www.cfp.net.

The Personal Financial Planning certificate consists of six undergraduate-level courses:

  • FIN 403    Investment Management
  • FIN 321    Risk Management and Insurance
  • FIN 480    Financial Planning Applications and Case Study
  • TAX 435   Basic Income Tax and Income Tax Planning
  • TAX 436   Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning
  • TAX 437   The Tools and Techniques of Estate Planning  

Finance Student Organizations: Walsh College Finance and Economic Club

  • Open to all undergraduates and graduates, the Finance and Economic Club has no fees or requirements to join
  • Club activities include certification seminars, economic club luncheons, R.I.S.E forum, and a tour of the Detroit Federal Reserve Bank
  • Members will enjoy networking with industry professionals and fellow students, keeping current with the jobs market, resume experience and internship opportunities with local firms

For the most recent year colleges were requested to report data, occupations in which graduates typically find employment after completing the Personal Financial Planning Certificate include Personal Financial Advisors. Further information on occupations may be found at http://online.onetcenter.org/crosswalk/ and entering the SOC code of 13-2052. The normal time frame for completing the certificate is 3 semesters. We estimate that tuition and fees would total $6,855 and books and supplies would total $1,062. Walsh College is not required disclose the median loan debt and on-time completion rate of students when less than 10 students completed the program during the reported calendar year.
