Vesta is the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility’s test and development rack of Blue Gene/Q. Vesta is the ALCF’s resource for basic tool and application porting, software testing and optimization, systems software development, debugging and for scaling to two racks of Blue Gene/Q.

Vesta shares the same environment as Mira, our 48-rack Blue Gene/Q system and is intended for small, short, interactive debugging and test runs. Vesta is not used for production job runs. By allocating Vesta space for testing and development, Mira is kept clear for capability jobs.

Vesta’s Blue Gene/Q system features:

• 2 racks of Blue Gene/Q
• 1024 nodes per rack
• 1600 MHz PowerPC A2 processor, 16-core chip and 16GB RAM per node
• A total of 32,768 cores, 32 terabytes of RAM, and a peak performance of 419.44 teraflops

Vesta debuted in 6th place on the 2012 Graph 500 list.
