Battelle - Brookhaven Women In Science Award (Discontinued in 2009)

Battelle and BWIS instituted an annual award to encourage more young women to pursue careers in science and mathematics. The award of $1000 was presented to a female high school student with a strong interest and aptitude for science or mathematics from each of five selected school districts - Longwood High School, Riverhead High School, William Floyd High School, Shoreham-Wading River High School and Eastport/South Manor Central High School.

The principals of each selected school were requested to choose a qualified candidate for the Battelle /Brookhaven Women in Science Award from the current graduating class. Children of Brookhaven National Laboratory employees were not eligible for this award.
