HPMC OMS supports the Hanford Site emergency preparedness program by:
- Participating in Site drills, exercises, scenario planning activities and responding to actual events
- Providing medical expertise for radiological, chemical, and biological injuries and illnesses
- Providing critical stress debriefing and hostage negotiations
- Providing risk communication services
HPMS OMS management and staff also support the local, state and federal medical communities by:
- Attending community meetings, seminars and other networking opportunities
- Identifying, developing, and offering, in conjunction with the DOE, specialized training to community medical organizations
- Establishing and maintaining medical points of contact
- Supporting DOE and the local hospitals in medical care and treatment arrangements for Hanford workers involved in emergency events
