Infection Control & Immunizations
HPMC OMS emphasizes illness prevention through such services as annual flu vaccination, Hepatitis-B immunization, and updating diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis immunization when appropriate.

Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Training and Medical Surveillance

Prime contractors provide OSHA-required Bloodborne Pathogen Initial Training for eligible employees either through HAMMER or through the contractor themselves. Call your training coordinator for details. During the class, students are instructed how to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series through HPMC Occupational Medical Services. Each student receives a vaccine acceptance/declination form. If the employee requests Hepatitis B vaccination, there are three requirements that must be met:

  1. Completion of BBP initial training. The employee’s EJTA should reflect that the employee is in the Bloodborne Pathogen Medical Surveillance Program (verify with your manager).

  2. The employee must bring their proof of BBP course completion to HPMC OMS to receive the first injection.

  3. The employee may make an appointment (preferred) or drop in for this immunization. HPMC OMS will send reminders when the employee is due for their second (30 days after the first) and third shots (6 months after the first).

If the employee declines the Hepatitis B vaccination series in the class, but later changes their mind, they should obtain a copy of their proof of training from their company training coordinator and go to HPMC OMS to start the series.

Hepatitis A Vaccine
This vaccine is provided for workers who are identified by their management, industrial hygiene or safety departments as having the potential of coming into contact with sewage through failure of transmission lines or equipment repairs in pits or in shop areas.
