Affordable Apartments Opening in National City, California

Casa Familiar hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the successful preservation and rehabilitation of 18 units of affordable housing on June 21, 2011. The Bungalows are in National City, the oldest city in San Diego County. Casa Familiar is a 38 year old non-profit affordable housing agency.

The City used just over a million dollars of HUD HOME funds. They were able to partner with Casa Familiar to acquire and completely rebuild 18 units. It was substandard housing and an eyesore in the city. Now 18 low income families can live in beautiful units at affordable rents. The apartments are located in a restored safe neighborhood that the families are proud to call home.

Erderlinda Garcia spoke at the ceremony, sharing what her new apartment meant for her family. Then, she gave a guided-tour including the gardens.

Mayor Ron Morrison cuts the ribbon with Frank Riley, Field Office Director, holding it as other officials look on.
