NATO’s relations with Russia

The 28 Allies and Russia work together as equal partners in the NATO-Russia Council (NRC), which was established in 2002. The NRC provides a framework for consultation on current security issues and practical cooperation in a wide range of areas of common interest. Its agenda builds on the basis for bilateral cooperation that was set out in the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act.

A new NRC Glossary on Counter Piracy has been published, and is now available for download. The Russian-English/English-Russian glossary was created to facilitate NRC cooperation in counter piracy.

NATO, Russia Military Chiefs hold talks on Afghanistan, Ballistic Missile Defence and Syria

14 Dec. 2012

Moscow, 14 December - General Knud Bartels, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, paid an official visit to Russia from 12 to 14 December to boost military-to-military cooperation and develop a common understanding on issues of strategic interest with Colonel-General Valeriy Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

NRC conference on countering improvised explosive devices

On 11 and 12 December 2012, the Counter Improvised Explosive Devices Centre of Excellence (C-IED COE) in Hoyo de Mazanares, Spain hosted a conference of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC). The conference focused on the threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which is not limited to theatres of operations and affects each of the countries of the NRC.
