Captain Steve Jeffs earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1989 from Seattle Pacific University and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy.  Following Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, RI, he reported to Naval Hospital Oak Harbor, WA.

In 1992, CAPT Jeffs reported to 3d Medical Battalion, 3D FSSG, Fleet Marine Forces Pacific, forward deployed to Okinawa, Japan.  CAPT Jeffs' tour included deployment as the Health Services Support Detachment Commander, Combat Service Support Detachment 33 in the Republic of Korea, two afloat deployments as the Landing Force Medical Planner and Health Service Support Detachment Commander, 31st MUE(SOC), completing the final year of his tour as Battalion Operations Officer (S-3).  Following his tour in Okinawa, CAPT Jeffs reported in 1995 to Naval Postgraduate School Monterey, CA.  He graduated in 1997 earning a Masters of Science degree in Systems Analysis.

CAPT Jeffs then reported to National Naval Medical Center Bethesda as the Head, Contingency Operations Department and Special Advisor for Readiness.  He led his staff in improving the command's deployment readiness from 19% to a sustained readiness greater than 90%.  He oversaw preparation and deployment of over 570 personnel in support of USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) during exercise Baltic Challenge - 98.

In 1999, CAPT Jeffs reported as the first Plans, Operations, Medical Intelligence Officer on the Commander U.S. Seventh Fleet staff embarked on USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.  At the completion of his tour in 2001, CAPT Jeffs reported to the Naval War College Newport, RI, College of Naval Command and Staff, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs and Strategic Studies, graduating in 2002.

Upon graduation, he reported to Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet for duty as the Fleet Medical Plans Officer.  CAPT Jeffs distinguished himself during the Pacific Fleet's response to the South Asia tsunami, including the deployment of the USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) and subsequent Theater Security Cooperation visits, setting the standard for medical response and engagement activities in support of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.

In 2005, CAPT Jeffs transferred to the staff of Commander U.S. Pacific Command to serve as the Chief, Medical Plans and Intelligence Branch where he established himself as the recognized expert in Health Service Support deliberate planning and requirements determination.

CAPT Jeffs transferred to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery in 2008, and served as the Chief, Force Protection/Force Health Protection Division, transferring in July 2009 to OPNAV N81 Assessment Division as a member of the Medical Analysis Branch Pilot.  CAPT Jeffs again distinguished himself in setting the standard for establishing and enhancing the analytic tools, data sets, and methodologies for program assessment and requirements determination.  CAPT Jeffs transferred in 2011 to his current assignment as Executive Assistant to the Medical Officer of the Marine Corps, Headquarters Marine Corps.

CAPT Jeffs is married to the former Teresa Green of Seattle, WA.  They have two children.

CAPT Jeffs' awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (two awards), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Battle "E", Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Ribbon (five awards), Overseas Service Ribbon (two awards), Navy Expert Rifleman and Navy Expert Pistol Ribbon.
