Southern Nevada Announces Fire Restrictions (news release)

BLM Fire Suppression Resources in Southern Nevada

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Southern Nevada District Office provides fire suppression for more than five million acres of federally managed public land and seasonally maintains three fire stations. Suppression resources include four engines, two Utility Terrain Vehicles fitted with suppression resources and one water tender. BLM also stations Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) in Southern Nevada as fire danger dictates. SEAT bases are located in Mesquite and Jean.

There are approximately 25 career seasonal/seasonal firefighters and 11 permanent fire positions in the Southern Nevada District Office. BLM is also the lead agency for the 20-person Southern Nevada Hand Crew #1, which is operational when fire danger and occurrence warrants. In addition, non-fire BLM employees provide fire support and suppression duties as needed.

Interagency efforts between BLM, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service include the Las Vegas Interagency Helitack Crew and the Las Vegas Interagency Fire Dispatch Center (LVICC).
