Technology development makes missions possible. Mars missions like the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter rely on the innovations of past missions and contribute to the missions of the future. New innovations made by engineers for the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Mission include the Optical Navigation Camera (ONC), a detector on the Mars Climate Sounder (MCS), and the Ka-band Telecommunications Experiment.  The Mars Technology Program (MTP) is responsible for technology-development plans that are consistent with NASA's Mars Exploration vision, and implementing and infusing those technologies into future missions. |
