Continuing Education Units FAQ

• Who can qualify for CME units?
  At this time, we are offering CME credits only to MDs and nurses.



• What do I have to do to qualify?
  In order to receive your CME credit, you must submit 2 Scantron forms to VA Employee Education System (EES). The instructions for these forms will be included as an attachment to the email announcement for Cyber Seminars selected for the pilot. These forms are available from the VA Medical Library at your Medical Center and/or through your VA Medical Center Satellite Coordinator. Please be sure to submit your forms to EES within the stated time of attending a qualifying Cyber Seminar.



• What professional groups have accredited Cyber Seminars?
  Through EES, VA HSR&D Cyber Seminars have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, and by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.



• I took a Cyber Seminar earlier in 2009, can I get CME credit for that session?
  The pilot program is beginning in January 2010, no cyber seminars that were held previous to that date will be available for CME credit. For sessions that are held January 2010 or later, the Cyber Seminar must have been designated for CME credit, and your accreditation forms must be submitted to EES within the stated time (typically 2-3 weeks) of attending. If those criteria are met, you should receive credit.



• Can I get CME credit for reviewing an archived Cyber Seminar?
  Archived cyber seminars do not qualify for CME credits.



• When will all the Cyber Seminar be accredited for CME units?
  After the conclusion of the pilot program, seminars held in 2010 will be accredited on a case-by-case basis. We hope to include more seminars sometime in 2011.



• Will Cyber Seminars eventually offer CME credit to all participants?
  We can only offer CME credit to participants for courses that fall under the guidelines of our accrediting partners.



• Are Cyber Seminars accredited only for CME units, or are other kinds of educational credit available?
  In addition to approved CME units, certificates of attendance are available for qualifying cyber seminar attendees.



• Which sessions carry CME credit?
  There are currently two seminar series-VIReC's Database and Methods Series and HERC's Cost-Effectiveness Analysis Course - in which some sessions may qualify for CME accreditation. One week prior to each Cyber Seminar, we will provide notification about whether CME credit is available for that specific session.



• I took a session and didn't receive credit. How do I resolve this?
  Contact cyberseminar@va.gov. In your contact with us, please mention if you have a copy of your EES Scantron forms.



• How much does a Cyber Seminar cost? Are CME-qualifying courses more expensive?
  All HSR&D Cyber Seminars, including CME-accredited presentations, are free-of-charge to both VA and non-VA employees.



• I am not a VA employee, can I still get CME credit?
  Not at the present time. You are still welcome to take the course, and when there is a change in the process, we will communicate that.
