NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center Geoportal
NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center Geoportal
Geography and Environment
CLASS, sxi, LiDAR, IOOS, STP, space weather, ...
The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) Geoportal Server provides a suite of new data discovery and access services to one of the nation's primary sources of geophysical data. Covering the spectrum from sea floor bathymetry to solar data, the NGDC archives can now be easily searched by time, space and theme keywords. Geoportal is not only integrated into NGDC's metadata management workflow, but it also provides a federated capability for users to search across all three NOAA data centers using the same technology. While offering a more enhanced interface for human-to-machine discovery and access, Geoportal supports a robust set of standard machine-to-machine web services.

This product includes 10 km, remapped, GOES-West images in visible and ir bands (shortwave ir, water vapor, and longwave ir) and loops in Flash and Java. The IR images are available in the following enhancements: AVN, Dvorak, JSL, RGB, Funktop, and Rainbow. This product is generated every 30 minutes. Also inlcuded in this dataset is Polar imagery. The DMSP SSM/IS and AMSU Micorwave imagery are available in 85 GHz radiance, precipitable water, and rain rate. In addition to these variables, DMSP imagery includes surface winds. The Polar imagery is produced every 3 hours.

NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit is an application that provides simple visualization and data export of weather and climatological data archived at NCDC. The Toolkit also provides access to weather/climate web services provided from NCDC and other organizations. The Viewer provides tools for displaying custom data overlays, Web Map Services (WMS), animations and basic filters. The export of images and movies is provided in multiple formats. The Data Exporter allows for data export in both vector point/line/polygon and raster grid formats.

GOES Satellite Data-Imager
GOES Satellite Data-Imager
Geography and Environment
GOES-9, GOES-10, CLASS, Southern Hemisphere, ...
The GOES Imager is a five-channel (one visible, four infrared) imaging radiometer designed to sense radiant and solar reflected energy from sampled areas of the earth. GVAR is the data transmission format used to broadcast environmental data measured by the independent GOES Imager and Sounder instruments, beginning with GOES-8 launched in 1994. Data distribution formats available are raw, AREA, NetCDF, GIF, and JPEG. Purpose: To monitor the atmosphere for severe weather development such as tornadoes, flash floods, hailstorms, and hurricanes. When these conditions develop, the GOES satellites can track storms on a minute-to-minute basis.
