Sex Offender Pleads Guilty to Unlawful Possession of Firearm
BOISE – David Ray Davis, 38, of Boise, Idaho, pleaded guilty today in United States District Court in Boise to unlawful possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.
According to court documents, on August 12, 1992, Davis was convicted of rape and kidnapping in the second degree in Ada County, Idaho, and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Paroled after serving part of his sentence, Davis was wanted in February 2011 for absconding parole supervision. On February 11, 2011, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Davis outside a residence in Mountain Home, Idaho. At that time, Davis was carrying a loaded, 9mm semi-automatic pistol. In court, Davis admitted to possessing the gun when arrested. His prior rape and kidnapping convictions prohibit him from possessing any firearm.
The charge of unlawful possession of a firearm is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years supervised release.
Sentencing is set for April 16, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.
The case was investigated by the Treasure Valley Metro Violent Crimes Task Force and United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force.
The case was prosecuted as part of Idaho's Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho.
