New Web-Based Video Series: Moisture Management in Residential Construction

Recently the Forest Products Laboratory partnered with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center to develop a series of web-based instructional videos aimed at overcoming moisture-related challenges in home building. These 14 short videos cover the basic functions of the building enclosure (the shell of the house that separates the indoors from the outdoors) and provide specific guidance on recommended practices. The videos were taped at construction sites to illustrate moisture management techniques in action. Featured topics include:

  • Overview of the building enclosure, including the foundation, exterior walls, and roof
  • Installation of house wrap, windows, and exterior doors
  • Installation of absorptive cladding systems including brick and stone veneer
  • Issues relating to managing heat flow, air flow, and water vapor flow
  • The importance of a quality management system, with an example of “hot spot” quality training
