The National Weather Service in San Angelo, Texas, is looking for volunteer rainfall observers across West Central Texas.  A number of automated stations currently exist across the region, but these are sparse at best.  Improved rainfall reporting can result in significant enhancements to river forecasts, flood potential and land management practices.

CoCoRaHS is an acronym for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.  CoCoRaHS is a non-profit, community-based rainfall network comprised of individuals of all ages working together to provide high quality observations across all 50 states.  All you need to join CoCoRaHS is a rain gauge.

We currently have observers spread out across most counties in our forecast area.  However, given the variability of rainfall over very short distances, we have a number of "data holes" we would like to fill.  If you are interested in providing this weather data on a volunteer basis, head to the CoCoRaHS website for information on how to join.  It's easy, it provides hydrologic information to decision makers of all backgrounds and anyone can join.  Join today!  You are under no obligation to submit your data but every bit of information has value.
