Each month the Current Employment Statistics program surveys about 145,000 businesses and government agencies, representing approximately 557,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls for all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and about 400 metropolitan areas and divisions.

- Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment data for January 2013 are scheduled to be released on March 22, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. Eastern Time.
- Regional and State Employment and Unemployment data for January 2013 are scheduled to be released on March 18, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. Eastern Time

Jobless rates were lower in December than a year earlier in 290
of the 372 metropolitan areas, higher in 68, and unchanged in 14.
Nonfarm payroll employment was up in 283 metropolitan areas over
the year, down in 83, and unchanged in 6.

In December, 22 states reported over-the-month unemployment rate
decreases, 16 states and the District of Columbia had increases, and
12 states had no change. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 27
states and the district and decreased in 23 states.
