Edward G. FitzGerald

Ed FitzGerald began his work with NCPTT in summer of 2008 as a graduate intern with the Architecture & Engineering Program. That summer, he began a study of commercially available paint strippers for use on historic brick facades and undertook a complete overhaul of the website and membership management system of US/ICOMOS, a long-standing non-profit partner of NCPTT. FitzGerald holds a degree in History and Anthropology from Northern Illinois University and undertook his graduate studies in preservation at Cornell University. Before coming to NCPTT, he worked as an architectural metal refinisher in Chicago, his home town, and participate in the US/ICOMOS International Exchange Program as the 2007 intern to Scotland.

In 2009, FitzGerald was asked to return to NCPTT to develop his work on Preservapedia, a wiki-style encyclopedia and knowledge base for preservation professionals. FitzGerald’s research interests and experience include materials conservation, statistical analysis of the existing building stock, geospatial analysis for cultural resources, labor economics in the field of preservation, and the preservation of the traditional building trades.
