Steven Ghan Editor-in-Chief for JGR-Atmospheres
Congratulations to Dr. Steven Ghan, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Fellow and climate scientist, for being appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Atmospheres section of the Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR-A). After serving 5 years as an editor, Ghan was appointed by American Geophysical Union's (AGU) Council to lead the journal's editorial direction for the next 4 years. As Editor-in-Chief, Ghan will ensure the journal's consistent strategic direction, lead the editor selection and workload processes, and serve as the journal's ambassador to the scientific community. He will collaborate with the editorial team to select outstanding science with an interdisciplinary perspective. JGR-A is published by the American Geophysical Union.
Ghan is well recognized in the climate research community and highly regarded for his expertise in developing, evaluating, and applying parameterizations for climate models, including aerosol interactions with clouds. He is a member of the ARM Climate Research Facility Science Board, co-chair of the U.S. Department of Energy's Atmospheric Systems Research Cloud-Aerosol-Precipitation Interactions Working Group, and served 6 years on the Scientific Steering Committee for the Community Earth System Model. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
The AGU is a worldwide scientific community that advances the understanding of Earth and space for the benefit of humanity through cooperative research. The organization publishes more than a dozen peer-reviewed journals ranging from Earth and oceans to atmosphere, space, and planets. The AGU journal is ranked among the top 10 most highly cited research publications on climate change.
