Alabama, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and Tennessee Will Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Alabama will receive $149.5 million, Iowa will receive $96.5 million, Maine will receive $39 million, Massachusetts will receive $204 million, Nebraska will receive $58.9 million, and Tennessee will receive $195.9 million to support education jobs.

Alabama to Receive More Than $59 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $59,635,587 is now available for Alabama under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Alabama has received $1,477,581,506 through the ARRA. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 4,300 education jobs from Jan.

U.S. Department of Education Awards More than $256,000 to Help University of Alabama in Huntsville Recover from Shooting of Three Faculty Members

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has awarded the University of Alabama in Huntsville a Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant, totaling more than $256,000, to assist with ongoing recovery efforts following a campus shooting that resulted in the death of three faculty members.

Alabama to Receive More Than $58 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Alabama will receive more than $58 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that $656 million is now available for Alabama under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.
