Commander, Naval Surface Forces
VADM Copeman

Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific (COMNAVSURFPAC) was established in 1975--as one of six Type Commanders (TYCOMS)--to ensure a properly manned, trained, equipped and maintained Pacific Fleet surface force.  The establishment of COMNAVSURFPAC consolidated the Cruiser-Destroyer, Amphibious, Mine Service Forces and other communities into a single command led by a Navy Vice Admiral.  The first Commander was Vice Admiral Robert Salzer, who oversaw the initial consolidation. Since then the composition of the command has changed but the mission remains consistent, "Warfighting First; Operate Forward; and Be Ready."
