Background: Disease Burden of Hypertension

Hypertension significantly enhances the risk of cardiovascular disease and accounts for nearly 14 percent of deaths associated with cardiovascular disease. In addition, hypertension increases the risk of developing other serious conditions such as coronary artery disease, stroke, congestive heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
