War of 1812 Ribbon Cutting Ceremony  

In July of 2012, Seas, Lakes & Bay: The Naval War of 1812 self guided walking tour was unveiled. The United States Naval Academy, its tour partners and city and government officials celebrated with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony. Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley spoke and assisted Superintendent Vice Adm. Michael Miller with the ribbon cutting. Proclamations were made by the official Annapolis Towne Crier Frederick Taylor. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed exploring a few of the sites on the walking tour. The walking tour features ten historic sites in Annapolis, five of which are located on the grounds of the Naval Academy. The walking tour explores the causes of the War of 1812, the American symbols that were defined by the War and results of the War of 1812.
