Brig. Gen. Donald MacWillie, senior commander, Fort Riley, left, signs a proclamation commemorating an educational observance for Law Day April 30 at 1st Infantry Division headquarters with Capt. Brian Kargus of the post’s Office of the Staff Judge Advocate. Law Day was established by President Eisenhower in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to the rule of law, according to information from Fort Riley’s SJA office. In 1961, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day. Since then, each president has signed a proclamation similar to the one MacWillie signed. To celebrate the commitment to the rule of law, attorneys, paralegals and staff at the SJA office visited on-post fifth grade classes through May 3 to demonstrate the importance of the court system.
