Safety & Health Services Division (SHSD) programs include:

Safety Engineering (SE), Industrial Hygiene (IH), Safety Management Systems Integration (SMSI), and Chemical Management Systems (CMS).

Safety Solutions Program - The BNL Safety Solutions (S2) Program is designed to seek out health and safety improvements and corrective actions derived from employee suggestions. The S2 program helps demonstrate BNL's commitment to make safe operations an integral part of the BNL operating philosophy.

Bicycle Safety - Bike injuries are common: According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every year about 800 Americans die because of bicycle-related injuries. Think it won't happen to you? The odds for danger are high: More than half a million Americans end up in hospital emergency departments because of bicycle-related injuries. So click on the link for tips and enjoy your ride.  Reminder:  Riding on sidewalks and walkways at BNL is strictly prohibited.

Ergonomics  - Ergonomics is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems, and environment for human use.  Ergonomics is about the fit between people, their work activities, sports and leisure, equipment, work systems, and environment to ensure that workplaces and everyday life are safe, comfortable, efficient, and that productivity is not compromised.

Defensive Driving Course - Seating is limited to 40 people, and pre-registration is required for the six-hour Defensive Driving (Point & Insurance Reduction) course. Organized by the BNL Environment, Safety & Health Directorate/Quality Management Office, sponsored by USA Training Inc. and delivered by EAS Associates, the course is open to BNL, BSA and DOE employees, BNL facility users, contractors and other guests, and their family members. The cost is $33.00 per person. The course can also be taken online for $29.95 at http://www.lidrivesafe.com/. For more information, see the Defensive Driving Program website.
