DRPT’s budget is updated annually by fiscal year, beginning on July 1 and ending on June 30. See the Related Links on this page for specific budget documents. The annual budget is adopted by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in May or June of each year.

DRPT funds projects through grants using an applications-based process. Click here to visit our grants page.

All of DRPT’s funding and grants are detailed in the Six-Year Improvement Plan.

DRPT Funding in the Six-Year Improvement Plan

Six-Year Improvement Plan (SYIP)
The following links provide an overview of transportation decision-making and funding through the Six-Year Improvement Plan.

The SYIP includes funding for DRPT and VDOT, and is approved annually by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB).

While a six year projection of revenues available for allocation is included in the SYIP, the actual allocations of these revenues is generally done on an annual basis to individual grantees. Allocations for the VTA 2000 projects and the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project are made for the next six fiscal years. The SYIP also includes an estimate of public transportation capital grant allocations for the five years that succeed the coming fiscal year.
