Sourcing and Reliability program aims at improving the value of DLA Aviation's Products/Services through source development, Product Improvement, Technical Grouping, Reverse Engineering, Organic Manufacturing, and other Technical / Engineering Services.
Sourcing and Reliability has many tools to improve DLA Aviation logistics support. Working with the Integrated Supplier Teams, Engineering Support Activities, manufacturers, and both military and civilian customers, the Value Engineering strives to build the teams needed to get our customers. Services available to the Product Centers include: Alternate Sourcing, Product Center Support, Reverse Engineering, VECP and Weapon System Support.
We maintain commitment to support the Integrated Supplier Teams with any engineering or technical support they require. Our commitment goes beyond alternate sourcing and generating data packages.
Many weapon systems suffer from diminishing manufacturing sources (DMS) for spares. Value Engineering, in cooperation with the Engineering Support Activities, helps develop new sources and lends our expertise to drawing and specification interpretations. DLA Aviation supports many aging aircraft weapon systems. Difficulties build as OEMs become unwilling or unable to provide support.
 Aviation Forging and Casting Program (AFCAT) Forged and Cast metal components regularly surface as the underlying cause of back orders, long administrative and extended production lead times, and high costs.
Reverse Engineering The process where technical data is generated from a sample part to create a competitive technical data package for the item. This process can be done in-house or through an Engineering Services Contract.
Alternate Sourcing It's common knowledge that competition drives prices down. Value Engineering is committed to support DLA Aviation by developing additional sources and creating complete technical data packages for troublesome items.
Value Engineering Change Proposals (VECP) The Value Engineering has the responsibility to be the technical coordinator of all Value Engineering Change Proposals for DLA Aviation. To Learn more about VECP, see the Contractor's Guide to Value Engineering.
Reliability is focused on providing tools and methods to more efficiently and effectively perform the sustaining engineering functions needed to establish and maintain improved supply support to aging systems.
Examples of Reliability engineering functions are: engineering analyses and assessments of materials, components, tooling, etc. required to manufacture parts; reliability analyses; analyses of failure trends; creation, maintenance and modernization of technical data; value engineering; reverse engineering; manufacture and testing of prototype and first article parts; and qualification of new parts and sources.
The scope of this area includes these functions and other activities performed by engineering and technical functions in support of DLA-managed aging systems parts. It is anticipated that development products in this Area normally will be: streamlined methods to identify problem parts; improved tools and methods for engineering analyses of aging systems; qualified parts; and technical data. |
