Visiting Research Professors

Each year SSI offers one or two visiting research professorships. These are research positions with no teaching and very limited administrative duties. The successful candidate will advance his or her own research agenda while simultaneously producing SSI studies on relevant strategic topics which will be distributed to military leaders, government officials, civilian academics, and the global strategic community. Adjunct Professors

SSI offers adjunct professorships to select LTCs or COLs in the Army National Guard (ARNG), U.S. Army Reserve (USAR), retired active component, and civilian scholars and practitioners. These are research positions with no teaching. The successful candidate will possess qualifications as outlined in Carlisle Barracks Memorandum 351-1 and will have the opportunity to advance his or her own research agenda while simultaneously producing SSI studies on relevant strategic topics which will be distributed to military leaders, government officials, civilian academics, and the global strategic community.

External Research Associates Program (ERAP)

ERAP is open. See note at the top of page. SSI uses the ERAP to fund research by scholars who are not affiliated with the U.S. military, the U.S. Government, or for-profit consulting firms. These scholars can be located either in the United States or abroad. ERAP is a contractual relationship rather than a grant. Payment for the research product is provided by the U.S. Government upon completion of the project. More on ERAP.

Unsolicited Submissions

If you are affiliated with the U.S. military, the U.S. Government, or for-profit consulting firms we are able to make your research available, but it is non-compensated and may or may not be an official SSI monograph. Submissions must be a response to one or more topics found in our annual Key Strategic Issues List. Researchers interested in submitting unsolicited manuscripts to be considered for publication must first send a resume/curriculum vitae to the Director of Research along with an abstract describing the paper's main argument and methodology as well as how the manuscript adds to the existing knowledge of the subject. Contact our Director of Research, Dr. Steven Metz, for more information.
