This page provides general interest websites as resources to the acquisition worker.

DoD Issuances - The Official Department of Defense Web Site for DoD Issuances.  This Web Site was established to provide a single, uniform system of DoD issuances and directive-type memorandums used to convey DoD policies, responsibilities, and procedures.  The DoD Issuances website is provided as a public service by the Washington Headquarters Services and the Defense Technical Information Center.


Defense Acquisition Portal (DAP) - The DAP serves as the central point of access for all AT&L resources and information, and to communicate acquisition reform. As the primary reference tool for the Defense AT&L workforce, it provides a means to link together information and reference assets from various disciplines into an integrated, but decentralized, information source.Defense Acquisition University (DAU) DAU provides mandatory, assignment-specific, and continuing education courses for military and civilian acquisition personnel. Its mission is to provide the acquisition community with the right learning products and services to make smart business decisions.

Defense Acquisition University (DAU) DAWIA Certification Courses This site provides details to apply for mandatory DAWIA certification courses in various acquisition career fields, assignment in specific courses, and executive level courses.  Classes are restricted to DoD and Federal employees, industry personnel working on DoD contracts, and specific categories of foreign personnel. 

Acquisition Support Tools The ARO site provides a searchable list of DoD acquisition-related tools such as Acquisition Strategy Decision Guide, Market Research, Turbo Streamliner, Turbo SpecRight, IPT Learning Campus, Risk Management Central, Industry-Government Partnering Guide, and Performance-Based Services Contracting Guide.

USD Comptroller This site provides the DoD budget, financial management policies, and financial management regulations. It also includes a search mechanism for reprogramming actions during execution.

DoN ACAT I-IV Program List The ACAT I-IV Program List provided by ASN RDA includes information on each ACAT I, II, III, and IV program. Information Technology programs will be forthcoming. The list is current as of August 2001 and includes the Short Title, Long Title, ASN, PEO, PM, Service Lead, and POC/Telephone/Email Address.

Early Bird The Early Bird provides daily compilations of published current news articles and commentary concerning significant defense and defense-related national security issues. It aims to give a balanced representation of how the public, Congress and the press see military and defense programs and issues. It intends to serve the informational needs of senior DoD Officials in the continuing assessment of defense policies, programs, and actions.

National Defense University The mission of the National Defense University is to prepare selected military officers and civilians for senior leadership and staff positions by conducting postgraduate, executive-level courses of study and associated research dealing with national security strategy and the resource component of national power, with special emphasis on acquisition and joint logistics, and their integration into national security strategy for peace and war.

DoD Acquisition Best Practices Clearinghouse (BPCH) .The idea of the DoD Acquisition Best Practices Clearinghouse is to address and support commonly found issues while dealing with practices in daily acquisition processes. It aims to be an authoritative source for information about best practices, serving the Department of Defense as well as industry.

Best Manufacturing Practices The BMP Program is a unique industry and government cooperative technology transfer effort that improves the global competitiveness of the U.S. industrial base. The primary objective toward this goal is simple: to identify and validate best practices, document them, and then encourage industry, government, and academia to share information about them. By fostering the sharing of best practices, BMP has become a national resource in helping organizations benchmark with the best, learn from others' attempts, and avoid costly and time-consuming duplication.

BRTRC Institute Multimedia Electronic Performance Support System BRTRC Institute Multimedia Electronic Performance Support System training products are based on the Institute's highly-acclaimed workshops developed by on-staff experts. These unique distance learning programs are developed via the Web and CD-ROM using a unique blend of high quality graphics, video, audio, animation, interactive testing, and games. The White House This is the authoritative site for the U.S. Government Executive branch. It provides policy statements, press releases, links to the executive offices (OMB's includes budget information), and links to federal economic and social statistics.

DAU Continuous Learning Center The DAU Continuous Learning Center provides online DoD Acquisition courses. Register and login to this site, select CL Modules, and choose online courses verified for credit toward the eighty-hour requirement.

Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) AFIT has met the ever changing and challenging scientific, engineering, and technical management needs of the United States Air Force and the Department of Defense through its graduate and continuing education programs.

Federal Acquisition Institute-OnLine University (FAI) FAI Knowledge Center is a website with access to training, resources, and expertise from peers and other professionals. It is designed around the metaphor of a Campus Map, which links to buildings that house online functions you would normally find in a real building.

Project Management Institute The Project Management Institute (PMIR) has grown to be the organization of choice for project management professionalism since its founding in 1969. With over 80,000 members worldwide, PMIR is the leading nonprofit professional association in the area of Project Management. PMI establishes Project Management standards, provides seminars, educational programs, and professional certification that more and more organizations desire for their project leaders.

International Council on Systems Engineering The International Council on Systems Engineering is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1990. INCOSE is an international authoritative body promoting the application of an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems.

Project Management Institute's (PMI) Aerospace & Defense Specific Interest Group (A&D SIG) The Aerospace and Defense Specific Interest Group (A&D SIG) of the Project Mgmt Institute (PMI) is dedicated to improving project management in the aerospace and defense arenas by implementing proven project management techniques and principles. There are over 1000 aerospace and defense project professionals in the A&D SIG who share and disseminate defense and aerospace project management information and best practices. One of the key objectives of the SIG is to keep all PMI members (over 100,000) abreast of of key sources of information, contacts, and practices regarding aerospace and defense projects.

Navy Electronic Directives System All of the OPNAV and SECNAV documents in this collection are located in numerical order via a series of index tables. These tables can be accessed by pressing the "Navy Directives Index" button at the link provided. The documents in these tables are in Portable Document Format (.pdf).

Director, Acquisition Career Management (DACM) This site is provided to the acquisition workforce member, to assist in obtaining information related to professional development. DACM provides information about career opportunities, career development guidelines, career management updates, education and training opportunities, intern training programs, and acquisition career management contacts.

Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) NPS provides a continuum of learning opportunities, including Graduate Degree Programs, Continuous Learning Opportunities, Refresher, and Transition Education.

Naval Audit Service Naval Audit Service is the organization responsible for internal audit of the $83 billion program of the Department of the Navy. The Organization Profile section provides information about their mission, resources, and operations. The Points of Contact section lists key position titles with telephone numbers and provides pre-addressed email forms. The Professional Services section contains information of interest to clients and potential clients, such as "What to expect in an audit." The Requesting Audit Work section provides background on the audit selection process and lists the type of information that you will need to provide when requesting an audit.

Department of Defense (DoD) Inspector General The Department of Defense (DoD) Inspector General serves as an independent and objective official in DoD who is responsible for conducting, supervising, monitoring, and initiating audits and investigations relating to the programs and operations of the DoD. The Inspector General provides leadership and coordination and recommends policies for activities designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of, and to prevent and detect fraud and abuse in, such programs and operations. The Inspector General is also responsible for keeping the Secretary of Defense and the Congress fully informed about problems and deficiencies relating to the administration of such programs and operations and the necessity for, and progress of, corrective action.

General Accounting Office The General Accounting Office is the investigative arm of Congress. GAO supports the Congress in meeting its Constitutional responsibilities and helps to improve the performance and ensure the accountability of the federal government for the American people. GAO examines the use of public funds, evaluates federal programs and activities, and provides analyses, options, recommendations, and other assistance to help the Congress make effective oversight, policy, and funding decisions. In this context, GAO works continuously to improve the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of the federal government through financial audits, program reviews and evaluations, analyses, legal opinions, investigations, and other services.
