Cleaning a monument

Cleaning a monument

Jason Church began the second phase of this joint study with the National Cemetery Administration. The project goal was to test cleaning products for effectiveness and appropriateness and to make recommendations of products and methods best suited to both clean and preserve the headstones. Jason’s work began with a visit to Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY followed by Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO from November 5 to 10, 2006. He is scheduled to visit San Francisco National Cemetery and Santa Fe National Cemetery from November 14 to November 18, 2006.

During this field trip, Jason will continue to monitor biological re-growth on headstones previously cleaned. He will also clean headstones in each of the five cemeteries using the best three performers to date.
