Description: As a mom or mom-to-be, it is important to stay informed and to always be prepared. To help, Families Fighting Flu (FFF) invites you to join a FREE educational webinar to learn about protection from the flu for pregnant women, new moms, including those who are breastfeeding, and young children. Dr. Kevin Ault, professor, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine will be discussing what moms and moms-to-be should know and do to keep themselves and their families healthy during flu season. Julie Moise, a parent and FFF board member, will also share her personal story about her infant’s battle with influenza and her involvement with FFF.

Description: Each one of us has the power to InFLUence Others to get a flu vaccination. This year, we have created the "Give Us Your Best Shot" Facebook photo contest. Immunize Nevada is asking Nevadans to capture a photo of themselves or someone they know getting a flu shot and upload it to Facebook to be entered into a drawing for one of six activitydescription50 gift cards.
There are six categories to enter including family, teens, seniors, pregnant moms, best Nevada sports fan, and best Nevada workplace. Individuals are asked to have fun and show others that by getting a flu vaccine, they are making a choice to protect themselves and their loved ones from the potentially deadly flu virus. Description: The first Reno Bighorns game of the season is set for Friday, November 30 at 7 p.m. at the Reno Events Center, but this year the first shot of the season will be made by a nurse. Description: Guest Lecturer James Seaboldt, PharmD, MSL brings us his expertise on the topic of influenza at a time when seasonal and pandemic flu is of wide concern. With the unique perspective of a researcher whose energies are focused on outsmarting one of natures' wiliest viruses, he will give us the whole story. From the bench top in the lab to the exam room, he will explain the current state of affairs in protecting patients from flu.
Doctor Seaboldt has a degree in Clinical Pharmacy with a concentration on infectious disease and immunology. He possesses additional degrees in psychology, biology and health education. Activity: Press Events Set to Applaud NSIP Cocooning Program for AIM Award
Description: The Nevada State Immunization Program (NSIP) is receiving national recognition for the Cocooning Program from the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM). The AIM Bull's-Eye Award for Innovation and Excellence in Immunization is presented annually and recognizes immunization strategies that "hit their mark" achieving goals and increases awareness by encouraging replication in other immunization programs.
As part of NIVW, we will be hosting two separate press conferences to get the word out about this prestigious honor, as well as to increase awareness about the importance of Influenza and Tdap shots for anyone around a newborn infant.

Description: As part of our mission to educate families about ways to stay healthy, Immunize Nevada is offering a hand washing demonstration at the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, located at 490 South Center Street, Reno, on Saturday, December 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The demonstration is simple. Kids put on a special lotion, wash their hands as they normally would, then place their hands under a light to see what germs they didn't rinse away. This gives Immunize Nevada a chance to interact with families and answer questions about getting an annual flu vaccine, as well as answer any other immunization related questions.
