This website offers information about Bureau of Land Management’s revision of the Miles City Field Office's resource management plans (RMP) for eastern Montana.

Currently, the BLM administers approximately 3 million surface acres and 12 million acres of federal minerals in Carter, Custer, Daniels, Dawson, Fallon, Garfield, McCone, Powder River, Prairie, Richland, Roosevelt, Rosebud, Sheridan, Treasure, Wibaux and portions of Big Horn and Valley counties.

The resources are managed under two separate RMPs: the Big Dry Resource Management Plan and the Powder River Resource Management Plan.  Due to recent land use changes, changing resource conditions, changes in use of public land, and new environmental concerns, the BLM is preparing this updated resource management plan by combining the Big Dry and Powder River Plans into one comprehensive plan which will be called the Miles City Field Office RMP.

The overall objective of the Miles City planning effort is to provide a collaborative, community-based planning approach to assist the BLM in updating the existing management decisions and resource allocations.  This RMP, based on updated information and land-use trends, will help the BLM manage more effectively for Montana’s future.
