Violation Severity Assessment Study |
FMCSAs CSA 2010 internal working group is looking into how the agency can revamp its entire safety rating process so that ultimately, all violations can be factored into FMCSAs assessment of the motor carrier. The first step in determining the rating or point system is to determine the safety risk inherent in each violation. FMCSA is now conducting research with the Volpe Center on a project called the Violations Severity Assessment Study to examine the prevalence of specific Federal motor carrier safety violations during post-crash inspections and comparing this information to the prevalence of these same violations during standard roadside (non-post-crash) inspections. From this information, violations that have the greatest safety risks will be identified, which, in turn, will determine the relative severities of all of the Federal motor carrier safety violations. This information will later be used by the CSA 2010 working group when it develops a new safety rating process for the agency. |
