Scientist Profile - Overview
White, Robert H. - Research Wood Scientist
Areas of Focus
ASTM Committee E-5 on Fire and Subcommittee D7.07 on Fire Performance of Wood
Fire performance of composite wood products
Fire resistance of structural wood members and assemblies
Fire testing of fire-retardant-treated wood products
Fire testing of vegetation
Research Goals
Research goals include the development of fire resistance models for engineered wood products including trusses, I-joists, and composite lumber products. In addition to the resistance of a structural member during a fire, we are interested in methods for post-fire evaluation of structural wood members for damage due to the exposure to elevated temperatures. Research activities include the experimental evaluation of untreated and fire-retardant-treated forest products for relative flammability. By adapting methods used for building materials, we have investigated the relative flammability of ornamental plants and invasive species.
