Below are some highlights from the January 2013 News Blast.

New Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) Available

Advanced Biomass Feedstock Logistics Systems II
The Energy Department announced the Advanced Biomass Feedstock Logistics Systems II funding opportunity, making about $6 million available for projects that will develop and demonstrate supply chain technologies to affordably deliver commercial-scale lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks to biorefineries across the country. Advancements in Algal Biomass Yield
As part of its efforts to develop transportation fuels that don't rely on petroleum, the Energy Department announced up to $10 million available this year to help unlock the potential of biofuels made from algae. The funding will support projects aimed at boosting the productivity of algae and increasing the efficiency of algae harvesting technologies. MYPP Update Now Posted
The Bioenergy Technologies Office has published an updated Multi-Year Program Plan. Significant changes include expanded algal feedstocks goals and targets, as well as a refocus on hydrocarbon-based fuel pathways following accomplishment of the Office's 2012 ethanol-related goals.

was in the spotlight this month as part of a new video series featuring Bioenergy Technologies Office staff. Watch Episode 3 of the Office's Staff Spotlight Series to hear about the beginnings of the Energy Department's work in biomass research and development and what John sees in the Office's future.

BioBlogs
In January, the Bioenergy Technologies Office Blog featured a post on the College of Environmental Science and  Forestry at the State University of New York (SUNY-ESF) willow program, a Sun Grant Initiative Regional Feedstock Partner and High-Tonnage Feedstocks Logistics grant recipient. SUNY-ESF's feedstock logistics and harvesting work has resulted in major developments in harvesting technologies.
