Students with Solutions 2012- Mobile App Design Contest
A Thai-U.S. Creative Partnership Event

USAID is undertaking a renewed effort to pioneer scientific, technological, research-motivated, and innovative approaches to traditional development challenges.  USAID Asia is looking ahead to a new relationship with Thailand and working to broaden our range of partners and capture the energy and creativity of youth.

As part of USAID Asia’s commitment to innovative science and technology based solutions to local development challenges, and to furthering our relationship with Thailand’s many outstanding universities and students, USAID Asia is proud to announce a special mobile technology application design contest.  The Contest, called Students with Solutions 2012, is open to university students throughout Thailand.

The goal of the Contest is to enlist Thailand’s talented university students in developing innovative, mobile technology solutions to address local development challenges in Thailand or Southeast Asia.  The Contest is focused on three distinct areas in which USAID Asia works in Thailand: combatting human trafficking, promoting disaster resilience and response, and preventing deforestation and forest degradation.

Students with Solutions 2012 invites teams of university students in Thailand to create a mobile application that will address the aforementioned issues facing Thailand or Southeast Asia.  Teams must submit a concept paper, per the template below, outlining the specific problem that will be addressed and their proposed mobile application, and a mock-up of their mobile application interface and functions by July 23, 2012.  Five finalist teams will be invited to participate in a Mobile Technology Forum and mentoring event on August 18, 2012 and will present a prototype of their mobile application to a panel of judges at an event in October 2012.

The winning team of Students with Solutions 2012 will receive a cash prize of 50,000 Thai baht along with tablet computers!

All teams must submit the contest entry form by July 23, 2012 which is available for downlad here: Concept Paper Template, Students with Solutions 2012.  In addition, each team must submit a mockup of the app design.  A suggested mockup tool is available, free for use, at http://mockflow.com/.
