Cambodia

U.S.-Cambodia cooperation in a number of areas is growing and moving our bilateral relationship forward. In 2006, the United States and Cambodia signed a bilateral Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), creating a cooperative mechanism focused on deepening and expanding our bilateral trade and supporting Cambodia’s efforts to implement its WTO commitments and domestic reforms. In 2012, the United States and Cambodia agreed to begin exploratory discussions of a potential bilateral investment treaty (BIT).

The United States remains Cambodia’s largest trading partner and export market. Two-way goods trade between the United States and Cambodia totaled $2.9 billion in 2011. Cambodia is undertaking efforts to broaden its export profile but currently depends overwhelmingly on exports from its garments and apparel sector, which totaled more than $2.5 billion in 2011.

Exports

Cambodia was the United States= 133rd largest goods export market in 2011.

U.S. goods exports to Cambodia in 2011 were $186 million, up 20.7% ($32 million) from 2010.

The top export categories (2-digit HS) for 2011 were: Vehicles ($124 million), Machinery ($20 million), Special Other (articles donated for relief) ($6 million), Electrical Machinery ($5 million), and Miscellaneous Textile Articles ($4 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Cambodia totaled $13 million in 2011.

Imports

Cambodia was the United States= 61st largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Cambodia totaled $2.7 billion in 2011, a 17.9% increase ($412 million) from 2010.

The top 5 imports categories (2-digit HS) for 2011 were: Knit Apparel ($1.8 billion), Woven Apparel ($783 million), Footwear ($43 million), Miscellaneous Textile Articles ($29 million), and Plastic ($15 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Cambodia totaled $7 million in 2011.

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade deficit with Cambodia was $2.5 billion in 2011, up 17.7% ($380 million) from 2010.
