Maj. Gen. Bobby J. Wilkes is Deputy Director of Politico-Military Affairs for Asia, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. He is responsible for regional planning and policy, and for the implementation of the National Security Strategy for Asia-Pacific, Central, South, Northeast and Southeast Asia regions, supporting the commanders of U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Central Command in the global war on terrorism. Additionally, he provides politico-military advice to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and National Command Authorities.

General Wilkes was commissioned following graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1977. He was an instructor pilot and flight examiner, served as a crisis action team member and executive assistant on the Joint Staff, and was the executive officer to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command. He has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels, as well as the College of Aerospace Doctrine, Research and Education, and an Expeditionary Mobility Task Force. The general also was Director of Operations for Joint Task Force Southwest Asia and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Director of the Air Component Coordination Element, U.S. Central Command, and as Director of the Combined Air Operations Center.

General Wilkes is a command pilot with more than 4,100 flying hours in the T-38, A-10, F-16 and KC-10.
