Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Sharpy is the Director of Plans, Programs and Analyses for Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa, Ramstein Air Base, Germany (A5/8/9). As the Director, General Sharpy leads theater engagement throughout Europe by managing unit basing, organization, force structure and analyses. He is responsible for developing and directing the command's resource capability processes, doctrine review, strategy initiatives and political-military affairs program, as well as overseeing command analyses and lessons learned. He is also responsible for command transformation, as well as implementing U.S. and NATO strategy and ensuring arms control treaty obligations are met. The General also serves as U.S. European Command's lead agent in support of the Strategic Airlift Capability C-17 program and the Heavy Airlift Wing at Papa, Hungary. From August to October 2011 he served as the Deputy Commander of Joint Task Force Odyssey Guard, conducting U.S. operations in Libya.

General Sharpy graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree and completed undergraduate pilot training in 1988. His career has involved numerous supervisory and leadership positions to include serving as the Senior Military Aide to the Vice President of the United States. He commanded the 9th Airlift Squadron and served as the 436th Operations Group Deputy Commander at Dover AFB, Del. He also served as the Vice Commander, 60th Air Mobility Wing, Travis AFB, Calif. and as the Wing Commander of the 92nd Air Refueling Wing, Fairchild AFB, Wash. Prior to his current assignment, General Sharpy was the Director of Air Force General Officer Management at the Pentagon.

The General is a command pilot with more than 3,900 flying hours in the KC-135, C-17 and C-5.
