Brigadier General Bohdan Danyliw is the staff judge advocate for Air Force Systems Command with headquarters at Andrews Air Force Base, Md.
General Danyliw was born in Hartford, Conn., in 1924, where he graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1941. He then attended The Catholic University of America for several years and returned after World War II to earn a bachelor of arts degree in 1948. He has a juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law School, 1952.
During World War II in October 1943, General Danyliw entered active duty as an aviation cadet in the maintenance engineering program and received his commission as a second lieutenant in July 1944 at Yale University. He then served as an aircraft maintenance officer in the Air Service Command at Kelly Field, Texas. In May 1945 he entered B-29 flight engineer training at Hondo Army Air Field, Texas, and received his aeronautical rating in August. General Danyliw served in various assignments in the United States and on Guam until June 1946, when he was released from active duty. He then entered The Catholic University of America and after graduation entered Georgetown University Law School.
General Danyliw was recalled to active duty in April 1951 and served as a special investigative officer in the Office of Special Investigations at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C., until July 1951 when he returned to Georgetown University Law School as a student officer. After graduation in February 1952, he returned to OSI and eight months later received a regular commission.
In October 1954 he was assigned to the Directorate of Special Investigations, U.S. Air Forces in Europe. General Danyliw was assigned to the Office of The Judge Advocate General and went to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, in October 1957, where he served for two years as an assistant staff judge advocate in the 2750th Air Base Wing. He next moved to Headquarters Air Materiel Command as a trial attorney for disputes arising out of Air Force contracts.
He was transferred to Japan in June 1963 where he was chief of the Civil Law Division, 6100th Support Wing at Tachikawa Air Base, and in January 1964 joined Headquarters Fifth Air Force at Fuchu Air Station where he performed duties in international law and government procurement law.
In June 1966 General Danyliw was assigned to Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as chief of the Opinions Division, Directorate of Procurement Law. In that position, he was responsible for providing procurement law advice to AFLC and to the Aeronautical Systems Division of Air Force Systems Command. In May 1968 he became director of contract appeals and the Air Force chief trial attorney with responsibility for representing the U.S. Government before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals in all disputes arising from Air Force contracts.
General Danyliw was transferred in June 1971 to Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base, Md., as deputy staff judge advocate and in May 1973 became the command staff judge advocate.
His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon. He holds the aeronautical rating of aircraft observer and is a member of the Connecticut Bar.
He was promoted to the grade of brigadier general effective June 1, 1973, with date of rank May 29, 1973.
